Jesus Portillo
Jesus grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He attended the University of Houston, where he earned a BS in Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences. At the University of Texas Southwestern, he studied how enterovirus D68 went from being a mainly respiratory pathogen to developing the ability to cause neurological disease in Dr. Julie Pfeiffer’s lab. Looking to pursue his interest in neuroscience, he joined the Iyer laboratory in 2025 as a Research Technician.
In his free time, he enjoys writing fiction and watching movies.
